Barcelona star Ronald Araújo on Tuesday ramped up his efforts to overcome the mental and emotional problems with which he has been dealing for the last couple of weeks.
This comes amid confirmation that the Uruguayan has travelled to Israel, to embark on something of a spiritual retreat.
Stopper Araújo has of course not played his part in any of Barcelona’s last three fixtures.
In fact, the 26-year-old has not even trained with the rest of Hansi Flick’s squad since late last month.
After coming in for a wave of criticism and abuse for his needless red card against Chelsea in the Champions League, Araújo requested a spell away from his teammates, to deal with ongoing mental fatigue.
And as alluded to above, early this week, such efforts were taken up a notch by the player himself.
As per a report from Diario Sport:
‘The Uruguayan centre-back, with the club’s permission, travelled to Tel Aviv this morning to disconnect for a few days on a religious and cultural trip.’
After departing from Barcelona at 11AM this morning, Araújo ‘moved to different points of spiritual and cultural interest’.
The trip, it is added, will be a short one, but club and player alike will be hopeful of it proving to be a positive experience in Araújo’s journey towards recovery.
