Barcelona star keeping pace with Lionel Messi in UCL record books

A leading member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona on Tuesday continued to write his name into the history books of European football.

As much came owing to his exploits in Barcelona’s Champions League meeting with Young Boys.

Hansi Flick’s troops of course marked their return to action on the continent last night, ultimately emerging on the right side of a dominant 5-0 scoreline.

Amongst the goalscorers on the night, almost inevitably, was Robert Lewandowski, who found the net either side of the interval to take his tally for the campaign to nine goals in ten appearances.

And, as alluded to above, in the process, the Polish veteran continued to make history.

As revealed by statisticians Opta, Lewandowski has reached a ratio of 0.79 goals-per-game across his career in the Champions League.

This is a ratio only managed by one other player in the competition’s history (50+ goals), in the form none other than Barcelona icon Lionel Messi:
