Barcelona star jumps to defence of Ferran Torres after Girona red card

A fellow member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this evening moved to defend teammate Ferran Torres.

This comes after the versatile attacker was sent for an early bath during Barca’s Catalan Derby showdown with Girona.

Hansi Flick’s troops are fresh off another dominant victory, goals on the part of all of Lamine Yamal (2), Dani Olmo and Pedri giving rise to an eventual 4-1 result.

An otherwise positive evening’s work for the Blaugrana, however, was soured ever-so-slightly late on.

As much came upon the aforementioned Ferran Torres being shown a straight red card.

Introduced off the bench for Barcelona, a late challenge on the part of the Spanish international was adjudged to have been worthy of an immediate dismissal.

The disappointment was evident across Ferran’s face as he made his way from the field of play, now suspended for next weekend’s meeting with Villarreal.

As alluded to above, though, post-match, another member of Hansi Flick’s ranks was quick to throw his backing behind his fellow countryman.

Speaking during an exchange with the media a short time ago, Pedri was drawn on Ferran’s red card.

And the midfield starlet, in his response, pointed towards a challenge that he himself was on the receiving end of earlier this season as evidence of inconsistency in La Liga’s officiating:

“Ferran’s tackle was the same as what happened to me against Rayo Vallecano… But their player wasn’t sent off.”
