Barcelona star Raphinha has provided an insight into the reasoning behind his new-look goal celebration, made use of in the club’s meeting with Elche.
Hansi Flick’s Barca are of course fresh off kicking the defence of their La Liga title into gear on Sunday evening. After making the trip to Alicante to lock horns with the aforementioned Elche, the Blaugrana ultimately emerged dominant 5-0 victors.
The aforementioned Raphinha for his part featured from the off in the fixture, and proved himself one of the stars of the show. The Brazilian was responsible for a brace as well as an assist, a stellar opening to the new season on an individual level.
After his first goal of the evening at the Estadio Martínez Valero, Raphinha unveiled a new celebration, mimicking action hero ‘Spider-Man’.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of Barca’s opening day victory, the former Leeds United man was therefore asked for the inspiration behind his gesture.
And Raphinha went on to explain:
“It was for my son. He asked me to do it. He’s at an age now where he loves Spider-Man so much, and he asked me to do that move if I scored a goal. This goal was for him.”
