A fresh insight into the mounting tensions between Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, and the club’s board, has on Monday been provided.
The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, and points towards things as continuing to take a turn for the worse between the two parties.
As much comes owing to two key factors: De Jong’s health, and contract situation.
When it comes to the former, the advice sent the way of the 27-year-old by the club has long been to go under the knife, to repair his damaged ankle.
De Jong, however, is standing firm in his pursuit of more conservative treatment.
With the midfielder’s performances continuing to leave a lot to be desired, owing in large part to his caution when it comes to re-injuring the ankle in question, patience is in turn beginning to wear thin behind the scenes at the Camp Nou.
And this is only added to by the ongoing uncertainty surrounding De Jong’s future.
The Dutchman’s current terms are due to expire in the summer of 2026, with neither he or his entourage having yet made clear their intention to pen a new deal.
As much leaves Barcelona in an altogether precarious situation.
Deco and co. have long begun mulling over a sale next summer, in a bid to clear the midfielder’s considerable wages off the Blaugrana’s books.
This comes amid concern that De Jong could simply run his terms down, before seeking out a free agent exit.
All of this taken into consideration, Sport conclude that ‘a guerrilla war’ has been sparked between Barcelona and their long-time engine room star.
