Barcelona star admits he and teammates have ‘given life’ to Real Madrid

Barcelona star Pau Cubarsí has admitted that he and his teammats have afforded a glimmer of hope to arch rivals Real Madrid in the La Liga title race.

Barcelona were of course back in action on Saturday night.

Aware that an eventual victory would have seen them open up a six-point advantage atop the table, the Blaugrana welcomed Real Betis to Catalunya’s capital for a league clash.

When all was said and done, however, Hansi Flick’s troops were forced to make do with a point.

This came after Gavi’s early opener was cancelled out decisively by Natan a short time later.

After Real Madrid’s shock defeat at the hands of Valencia earlier in the day appeared to have all but killed off Los Blancos’ title chances, the reigning champions have in turn been afforded fresh hope.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle on Saturday evening, it therefore came as little surprise when the aforementioned Pau Cubarsí was quick to make clear his disappointment:

“We gave life to Real Madrid. We can’t rule out Atlético Madrid either. We have to win every match if we want to win La Liga. It feels like a defeat. Madrid stumbled and we should have won to extend the gap to 6 points.”
