FC Barcelona signed up to join the European Super League before their Copa del Rey triumph over Athletic Club on Saturday, according to Mundo Deportivo.

On the same day as his resignation as president of Barça, former president Josep Maria Bartomeu announced that the Catalan club planned to join the new project. The current club president, Joan Laporta, was open to studying the agreement during his presidential election campaign and since then has agreed to move into the direction of a new breakaway league.
