Barcelona ‘seriously considered’ signing of PSG star last summer

The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona expressed a keen interest in the signature of a member of the attacking ranks at French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Désiré Doué as the player in question.

Wide-man Doué has for his part spent the season to date continuing to make a name for himself as one of the standout up-and-coming talents in world football.

Lining out for Luis Enrique’s PSG, the youngster, still just 19, has racked up seven goals and 11 assists across all competitions.

And yet, as alluded to above, had those behind the scenes at Barcelona had their way last summer, Doué could have found himself shining in the colours of the Blaugrana this season.

As per Sport, whilst he was still at Stade Rennais last summer, Barca were more than interested in bringing the France international in:

‘Last summer, while the Nico Williams soap opera was unfolding, FC Barcelona seriously considered the signing of Desiré Doué, who was offered to Deco. The sporting management looked very favourably on the French pearl.’

In the end, however, the financial problems at the Camp Nou made a deal impossible, with Doué having gone on to pen terms with the aforementioned PSG.
