Barcelona & Real Madrid learn Super Cup fates

The dates assigned to the upcoming Spanish Super Cup mini-tournament have on Friday been confirmed.

For those not aware, the Super Cup in Spain pits the La Liga winners and runners-up against the Copa del Rey champions and defeat finalists.

This means that this season’s edition will feature the quartet of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic Club, and RCD Mallorca.

So, who plays who? And when?

As alluded to above, on Friday, confirmation of precisely that was forthcoming online.

First, on Wednesday, January 8th, Real Madrid and Mallorca will lock horns in the first of two semi-final fixtures.

Then, a day later, it will be the turn of Barcelona and Athletic Club to do battle for a place in the Spanish Super Cup showpiece.

The finale will then be held on Sunday October 12th, at The King Abdullah Sport City KASC Stadium “AlJawhara” in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid will no doubt be hopeful of a repeat of developments in last year’s competition, when they made short work of Barcelona en route to a 4-1 final triumph.
