An update on the ongoing efforts of the powers that be at Barcelona to have the ban handed down to Vitor Roque overturned has been provided this evening.
The subject of Roque’s impending suspension, of course, has dominated the Spanish media headlines over the course of recent days.
This comes after the Brazilian, fresh off finding the net for the 2nd game running, was given his marching orders in Barcelona’s weekend downing of Alavés.
After first being booked midway through the 2nd-half, Roque was unlucky to catch the sliding Rafa Marín with his studs, giving rise to a 2nd yellow, and ensuing red card.
Amid widespread agreement in Catalunya’s capital that the 18-year-old’s dismissal was unjustified, however, Barca quickly made clear their intention to appeal the decision.
And, on Wednesday, a fresh insight into developments has been provided.
The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, who have confirmed that the appeal put forth by Deco and his team of directors has been rejected.
As part of a lengthy seven-part response, the Competitions Committee announced that Roque’s red card will stand.
The January arrival in Spain, as a result, is in line to serve a one-game suspension against Granada this weekend.
Barcelona, however, will not accept as much without a fight, readying a 2nd formal appeal, on this occasion to the official Appeals Committee.
