Barcelona ‘pushing’ to sign Mikael Baza

The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona are actively pursuing a deal for an up-and-coming member of the defensive ranks at German outfit Hamburg. That’s according to market insider Florian Plettenberg, who names Mikael Baza as the player in the sights of the Blaugrana.

Baza, for his part, is a 16-year-old defender, who chiefly lines out in a central role. Left-footed, technically gifted and with bags of room for growth, the stopper has long been considered one of the standout young talents in German football.

Such abilities recently piqued the attentions of those in a position of power at the aforementioned Barcelona, who earmarked Baza as the ideal addition to the youth system in Catalunya’s capital.

And as alluded to above, ahead of the fast-approaching transfer deadline, Deco and co. have this week ramped up efforts to bring the teen to Spain.

As per a report from journalist Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany:

‘FC Barcelona are pushing to sign Mikael Baza. Negotiations with Hamburger SV are ongoing. The 16 y/o talented centre-back is left-footed and has just one year left on his contract. Baza is very open to the move. The plan is for Baza to be developed through Barca Atlètic and Barca U19 before being integrated into the first team.’
