Barcelona pump the brakes on agreed free agent signing

The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona are no longer dead set on moving forward with a deal for a potential free agent summer signing.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Jonathan Tah as the player in question.

The name of defender Tah has of course long proven a prominent one in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital.

This comes amid the widespread understanding that the framework of an agreement is in place, for the German international to link up with Barcelona upon the expiration of his Bayer Leverkusen contract in the summer.

Tah, for his part, has long considered the Camp Nou to be his priority landing spot.

Safe to say, then, that the latest word stemming from the boardroom at Barcelona will no doubt come as a source of concern for the stopper.

This comes amid confirmation that, whilst a deal is not yet dead in the water, Deco and co. have pumped the brakes on the operation for the time being.

As per Sport:

‘What seemed like an almost certain signing is now on ‘stand by’. If the squad has four centre-backs there will hardly be room for a fifth. In addition to Araujo’s continuity, Eric’s prominence is on the rise. And, as if that were not enough, fair play continues to limit sporting planning for next season.’

Tah, as a result, could well be forced to expand his search for a new club for next season.
