Lionel Messi at PSG and a possible return to Barcelona

Lionel Messi’s future, as of today, is probably not known to him or those closest to him. What once appeared to be a very likely contract renewal with PSG is now not so certain.

Before, during and shortly after the World Cup, a new PSG deal looked certain, at least in France. Messi won the World Cup with Argentina in Qatar but then things turned a bit sour at club level, with elimination from the Champions League and boos from PSG fans for the World Cup winning captain.

Barcelona vice Rafael Yuste recently spoke of having contact with Messi’s entourage. This, for the time being, has been limited to a meeting with Messi’s father, Jorge Messi, and as it stands, there has been no real offer from Barça, according to Marca.

It will not be a straightforward solution as club president Joan Laporta and Messi are not on speaking terms, not to mention the precarious economic situation of the club.

Fitting Messi in financially would not be easy either, but fans at the Catalan club will remain optimistic for now.

The Argentinian’s contract with the French outfit expires on 30 June 2023.
