Barcelona preparing to extend sidelined youngster’s contract to 2029

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona are readying the ultimate show of support for youngster Marc Bernal.

This, of course, comes amid what has proven a hugely difficult 48 hours for the midfielder.

No doubt feeling on top of the world owing to a 3rd successive La Liga start in Barca’s meeting with Rayo Vallecano, Bernal was brought crashing down, by way of an injury blow.

Forced into a premature departure from the action at Vallecas deep into injury-time, ensuing tests confirmed the worst.

The Spanish talent, still just 17, has suffered an ACL tear, as well as meniscus damage, in his left knee.

Bernal, as a result, is not expected to return to the pitch until next season.

Public messages of support have since flooded in for the midfielder, by way of Barcelona’s players and supporters alike.

And now, as alluded to above, those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou are ready to do their part in keeping Bernal’s spirits up, too.

As per a report from Blaugrana insider Toni Juanmartí of Diario Sport:

‘Barça will renew Marc Bernal’s contract until 2029 after his injury. The club believes that he is already a structural piece and wants to address the midfielder’s extension in the coming weeks so that he feels even more supported.’
