Barcelona player Arthur Melo charged with drink driving after crashing car

Barcelona midfielder Arthur Melo was charged for drink driving in the early hours of Monday morning, according to Diari de Girona.

The player, who is expected to soon join his new club Juventus, failed an alcohol test after crashing his Ferrari in Palafrugell, Catalonia.

The Diari de Girona initially reported that the Brazilian had been spotted by a police officer after driving his car on to a pavement in the town at 4 am in the morning. Arthur was was reportedly drunk when approached by a policeman, took an alcohol test and tested over the limit, with 0.55 milligrams of alcohol per millilitre of blood. The legal limit in Spain is 0.5.

No other cars were involved in the accident and no-one suffered any injuries, however there was some slight damage done to Arthur’s (24) car, according to ESPN.
