Barcelona open contract talks with another youngster amid PL & Serie A interest

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have kicked efforts into gear to tie a highly-regarded member of the club’s youth ranks down to a new contract.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Monday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

The player in line for fresh terms comes in the form of Marc Bernal.

Bernal, for his part, is a 16-year-old midfielder, who, despite his tender years, is currently plying his trade with Rafael Márquez’s Barca Atlètic.

Long considered to be one of the standout talents at La Masia, the Spanish youth international has begun to pique interest across the continent, with clubs from all of the Premier League, Serie A and Bundesliga understood to be keeping a close eye on his situation.

As much comes with Bernal’s current terms due to expire in the summer of 2026.

If the latest word stemming from the media on Monday is anything to go by, though, then those of a Barcelona persuasion need not fret.

This comes amid confirmation on the part of the aforementioned MD that negotiations over a contract renewal have been opened with the midfielder’s entourage.

Not only that, but Bernal himself has made clear that his only intention is to stay put in Catalunya, with an agreement over fresh terms therefore expected to be forthcoming in short order.
