Barcelona offered chance to sign World Cup star

La Liga giants Barcelona were recently contacted over their interest in a potential summer deal for Athletic Club and Spain star Aymeric Laporte.

Stopper Laporte is of course currently in the midst of what has been a spectacular summer to date. Plying his trade with the Spanish national team at the World Cup, the former Manchester City man has played a starring role at the heart of La Roja’s backline.

Alongside Pau Cubarsí, Laporte has helped Luis de la Fuente’s troops to a record of just one goal conceded across seven fixtures.

And the 32-year-old’s entourage, it would appear, are eager to take advantage of this fine form by securing for their client a high-profile transfer for next season.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, citing COPE:

‘The Athletic Club defender was offered to the Catalan club a few days ago.’

It is also noted, however, that a deal actually coming to fruition over the weeks ahead is considered highly unlikely, owing in no small part to the strained relationship between the respective boards at the Camp Nou and San Mamés.
