Barcelona ‘not sure’ if free agent striker has required level to play for the club

The scouting department at La Liga giants Barcelona are continuing to keep a close eye on LOSC Lille star Jonathan David.

The Blaugrana, as of yet, though, have not been entirely convinced of the Canadian’s readiness to thrive in the system of playing in Catalunya’s capital.

Frontman David has of course seen his name take its place front and centre in the media chatter in Barcelona across the week to date.

This comes after the 24-year-old, amid long-standing rumours linking him with a move to the Camp Nou, confirmed his hopes of one day lining out for Hansi Flick’s side:

“(Barcelona) was always the team I grew up supporting. When you grow up supporting a team, it’s your dream to play for them.”

David is primed to become a free agent in the summer of 2025, upon the expiration of his contract terms with Lille.

And, as confirmed by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are indeed keeping a close eye on the goalscorer, with a view to his potential signing.

As of yet, however, the Camp Nou scouting department have not been fully convinced:

‘At the moment, according to sources consulted by MD, Barça are not sure whether he is of a top level that would allow him to fit into the Barça style of play.’

It now remains to be seen whether or not David manages as much over the remainder of the campaign…
