Barcelona narrow goalkeeper search to 2 names

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have narrowed their search for a new goalkeeper to just a pair of profiles.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Tuesday provided a fresh insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

The subject of reinforcements between the posts has of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the last 24 hours or so.

This comes amid widespread reports that the Barcelona brass are giving consideration to dipping into the free agent market for fresh blood.

After Marc-André ter Stegen was condemned to a long-term spell on the sidelines owing to a serious knee injury, Deco and co. were left with little choice but to seek out a potential replacement.

And, as alluded to above, amid this search, two names have today surged clear of all others.

As per the aforementioned MD, the pair in question come in the form of Keylor Navas, and Wojciech Szczęsny.

In the case of the former, ex-Real Madrid shot-stopper Navas is understood to be very much open to linking up with Barca, following the expiration of his terms with Paris Saint-Germain over the summer.

Szczęsny, on the other hand, is technically retired, after the mutual decision was made to part ways with Juventus over the summer, to make room for Michele Di Gregorio.

The Camp Nou brass, though, evidently feel that the Pole could be coaxed out of retirement by the prospect of lining out for another of Europe’s leading clubs for another year.

It is in turn concluded that:

‘Now it is up to Hansi Flick and Deco, together with the sports commission, to decide who is the best goalkeeper among those in the running.’
