Barcelona legend Lionel Messi breaks Gonzalo Higuain’s all-time Inter Miami record

Barcelona icon Lionel Messi has this week continued to etch his name indellibly into the history books of world football.

This comes owing to his exploits in Inter Miami’s latest outing.

Inter marked their return to action in the early hours of Monday, playing host to Toronto FC in an MLS clash.

Messi for his part featured from the off, and unsurprisingly proved himself the star performer for the day’s hosts.

En route to an eventual 1-1 draw, the Argentine notched Inter’s only goal, shortly after seeing what looked set to be the game’s opener disallowed.

And as alluded to above, in the process, Messi clinched fresh history.

As revealed by statisticians 433, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has now racked up the most direct goal contributions in Inter Miami’s history.

In just 29 appearances, Messi has notched 44 combined goals and assists, guiding him beyond previous record-holder Gonzalo Higuain.
