Barcelona in fresh Sergi Roberto U-turn

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have once again changed their minds regarding the future of versatile midfielder Sergi Roberto.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Sunday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

Roberto, for his part, was of course widely expected to bring a close to his long-term Barcelona stint this summer.

As much comes ahead of the expiration of the Spaniard’s contract in June.

With Roberto’s biggest supporter, in the form of Xavi, primed to move on, reports throughout the media had long assured that the plan was to allow the 32-year-old’s deal to reach its conclusion.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word doing the rounds this weekend is anything to go by, it would appear that a 180-degree turn is on the cards on the part of Barcelona’s board.

As per MD:

‘Following the recommendation that Xavi gave publicly and also at technical summits, the Barça club has already informed Roberto of their intention to negotiate the renewal of his contract.’

Talks between the parties are expected to be kicked into gear over the coming weeks.

Whilst Roberto, for his part, has his eye on following former teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and more to Major League Soccer down the line, for the time being, he is eager to continue his adventure at the Camp Nou.
