Barcelona in advanced talks over free agent midfield signing

La Liga giants Barcelona have reached the stage of advanced negotiations in their efforts to add to the club’s midfield ranks for next season.

That’s according to a number of sources, who point towards the Blaugrana as inching towards closing a deal for Guido Rodríguez.

Rodríguez, for his part, has long been tipped as an option to reinforce the gaping hole at the base of Xavi’s Barcelona engine room.

The 30-year-old represents an enticing target for a whole host of reasons, not least his long-time La Liga excellence, and status as an established Argentinian international.

Above all, though, what has seen Guido make his way to the top of Barca’s wishlist is his availablility.

The World Cup winner’s contract with Real Betis is due to expire in the summer, meaning he can be snapped up as a free agent over the coming months.

And, as per mounting reports, precisely as much appears to be on the cards in Catalunya’s capital.

As per Barcelona insider Toni Juanmartí of Diario Sport, an agreement on the terms of a contract between Guido and the Blaugrana is ‘very advanced’.

The Argentine is ready to put pen to paper on an initial two-year deal, featuring the option for a further 12 months.

And a similar claim has since been pushed by Argentine football expert Gastón Edul, who reiterates that the board at the Camp Nou have tabled a proposal for Guido, which has culminated in ‘advanced’ talks.
