Barcelona hope to announce long-term midfield contract extension ‘soon’

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona are hopeful of being able to announce a contract extension for star midfielder Pedri over the weeks ahead.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Thursday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

Negotiations have long been in full swing between the Barcelona brass, and Pedri’s entourage.

This comes amid ongoing efforts on the part of the former to tie the club’s engine room gem down for the long-term.

Pedri’s current Blaugrana terms are due to expire in the summer of 2026.

With the Spanish international having looked back to his brilliant best under the watch of Hansi Flick, his renewal has in turn been labelled as something of a priority at the Camp Nou.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then as much should not be long in being announced.

As per MD, following a fresh round of talks between Pedri’s representatives and Barcelona this week:

‘Sources at the Barcelona club have expressed their good feelings and optimism that they will soon be able to announce an extension of the Canary Islander’s contract.’

The deal under discussion would see the 22-year-old tied down all the way through 2030.
