Barcelona have not made an offer for Athletic Bilbao’s Iñigo Martínez as of yet

Barcelona are yet to submit an offer to Athletic Bilbao to sign Iñigo Martínez, as reported by Marca.

Last week it was reported that Barcelona told the Basque club that they are looking at Martínez and are preparing to make an offer for the defender.

At the time the Blaugrana seemed to be losing the race against Chelsea to sign Jules Koundé from Sevilla. However, Xavi has made the French centre-back his number one target and with Chelsea appearing to be withdrawing from the negotiations, a deal between Sevilla and Barcelona has never been closer.

As Barcelona focus on trying to sign Koundé, their interest in Martínez has lessened. Athletic Bilbao haven’t received a formal offer from the Catalan side yet and the 31-year-old hasn’t indicated his desire to leave the club either.

The club’s board are in the process of preparing a contract renewal for Iñigo Martínez, which would keep him at Bilbao beyond 2023.
