Barcelona halt negotiations with Atlético Madrid for João Félix

The powers that be at Barcelona have come to the decision to step back from negotiations with their counterparts at Atlético Madrid, over the permanent signing of João Félix.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have today provided an update on the Portuguese’s situation in Catalunya.

Félix’s name has of course found itself front and centre in the headlines in Spain once more of late, albeit for less than positive reasons.

This comes amid fresh concerns over not only the form being displayed by the former Chelsea loanee, but his attitude, too.

In Barcelona, president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco are understood to maintain full faith in Félix, adamant that he will ultimately go on to prove his worth.

Xavi Hernández and the Blaugrana coaching staff, however, remain doubtful of as much.

Such concerns have resulted in Barca, for the time being, halting discussions with Atlético, over the possibility of making Félix’s arrival permanent ahead of next season.

The onus will now be on the 24-year-old himself, to prove himself worthy of such an investment.

Should Félix fail to do so, Laporta and co. could seek out another loan, though it remains to be seen whether those at the Wanda Metropolitano would be open to as much.
