Supporters of La Liga giants Barcelona have on Saturday moved to make clear once more their frustrations with a key member of the club’s midfield ranks.
The player in question? Frenkie de Jong.
This comes owing to developments in the club’s latest outing.
Barcelona marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to Seville for a La Liga meeting with Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis.
When all was said and done, the Blaugrana were forced to make do with a share of the spoils, opening the door for arch rivals Real Madrid to close the gap atop the table once more later this evening.
Hansi Flick’s troops managed to find the net on a pair of occasions over the course of the 90 minutes, through Robert Lewandowski, and Ferran Torres.
On both occasions, however, Barca were unable to hold onto the advantage.
First, Giovani Lo Celso slotted home from the penalty spot, after Vitor Roque was brought to ground in the visitors’ penalty area.
Then, deep into injury-time, it was the turn of youngster Assane Diao, who conjured up a moment of brilliance to ensure that Betis did not head home empty-handed.
Post-match, a whole host of Barcelona stars have, in turn, been singled out for criticism, with the likes of goalscorer Ferran and defender Jules Koundé amongst those targeted.
None, however, have been more widely slammed than the aforementioned Frenkie de Jong.
The Dutchman was introduced off the bench this evening, with his side in possession of a 1-0 advantage.
Just days on from notching a goal and an assist as a substitute at Mallorca, however, De Jong, on this occasion, disappointed with his display.
Labelled clumsy and passive since the full-time whistle at the Estadio Benito Villamarín, calls, in fact, have on Saturday mounted once more for the former Ajax man to be sent on his way by the Camp Nou brass upon the season’s close:
