Barcelona edge closer to signing Robert Lewandowski

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has reported that Barcelona are now close to reaching an agreement with Bayern Munich for Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski has been the subject of transfer speculation for the last few months. The Polish striker has publicly announced his desire to leave Bayern and refused to sign a contract extension with the Bavarians in May. His contract, as it stands, will expire next summer.

Lewandowski said in May that his time in Munich had come to end. “My story with Bayern has come to an end, I cannot imagine further good cooperation. I hope they will not stop me (from leaving) just because they can. A transfer is the best solution for everyone.”

Barça have always been in the driving seat to land the striker. And now The Athletic has reported that there is optimism surrounding the deal and that an agreement could be close. It was only reported last Wednesday that the Blaugrana had submitted an offer for €40 million for the 33-year-old.

The Poland international has been actively trying to convince Bayern to agree on a deal with the Catalan club and now it does look like he will get his desired move.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Lewandowski agreed personal terms for a three-year deal with Barcelona four months ago.
