Barcelona do not intend to sell Frenkie de Jong

In an interview with Barça TV, Joan Laporta revealed that he has no intention of selling Frenkie de Jong.

During the summer transfer window Els Culers were exploring the option of selling the Dutchman as his high salary is a financial strain on the club. Despite the Catalan outfit’s poor financial standing, the Barcelona president stressed the value that De Jong brings to the Barcelona squad and he is not planning to sell the 25-year-old:

“In midfield I have never wanted to sell Frenkie de Jong because he is one of the best players we have. He is one of the great talents, young, and one of the leaders of the team.”

De Jong has been one of the most important players in Xavi’s side and it appears as though Barcelona’s management want him to stay with the club for years to come. Thus, it seems very unlikely that he will leave the Nou Camp this January.

In the same interview, Laporta also revealed that he hopes Sergio Busquets chooses to renew his contract with the club and does not depart this summer.
