La Liga giants Barcelona have lost their appeal to secure a series of bonus payments from Russian counterparts Zenit St. Petersburg, relating to the transfer of Malcom.
For those not familiar with the story, Barcelona and Zenit have long been locked in a court case.
In the case of the former, as much came amid efforts to at last receive what they felt was an owed bonus of €490,000.
As part of the terms of Malcom’s transfer to Russia back in 2019, a clause was included, which stipulated that Barca would receive a bonus payment on each occasion in which Zenit qualified for the Champions League, so long as the Brazilian had played at least 50% of the club’s league fixtures.
FIFA ultimately came to the conclusion that Zenit should not be required to cough up such a sum, owing to the ban placed on Russian clubs in European competition following the invasion of Ukraine.
The brass at Barcelona, however, disagreed with this ruling, taking the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport as a result.
As announced by Zenit, and since relaid by Mundo Deportivo on Thursday, however, the Blaugrana’s appeal has been rejected, with the CAS having ruled in favour of the Russian club.
