The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona are growing increasingly open to the sale of midfield star Frenkie de Jong.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Tuesday provided an insight into the situation.
The name of midfielder De Jong has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital for several days now.
This comes amid mounting criticism being aimed in the direction of the Dutchman, for the level of his performances.
This day last week against Brest, in fact, De Jong was widely whistled and jeered by members of the Barcelona fanbase.
And as much, added to all of his contract situation, high wages, competition for places and long-term failure to establish himself as a leader in Barcelona’s midfield, could yet see the 27-year-old sent on his way next summer.
As per a report from Sport, the Camp Nou brass have withdrawn their most recent contract offer to De Jong, after growing tired of waiting for a response.
Ahead of the expiration of his current terms in the summer of 2026, an upcoming sale is therefore being taken into serious consideration.
Not only that, but, as per journalist Ramon Salmurri of the reliable Catalunya Ràdio, ‘Barça would be satisfied if an offer of 20 million euros for Frenkie arrived’.
