The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona have earmarked a member of the defensive ranks at Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur as a potential summer signing.
This comes amid confirmation of the Blaugrana keeping a close eye on the situation of Cristian Romero.
Deco and co. are of course widely expected to add to Hansi Flick’s options at the heart of defence with a view to next season.
Barca’s squad is considered short of quality at centre-back, with Inter Milan standout Alessandro Bastoni the undisputed first-choice target on the part of those behind the scenes at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Bastoni, however, will not come cheap, with Inter expected to demand a premium fee for their defensive stalwart.
In the case of this sum proving to be out of the reach of cash-strapped Barcelona, alternative options will therefore be sought out.
And as alluded to above, this week, the identity of one such target has been revealed…
As per a report from Diario Sport:
‘Cuti Romero is the name that the Blaugrana sporting management is considering as an alternative to the signing of Alessandro Bastoni. The Tottenham centre-back has all the characteristics that Hansi Flick and Deco are looking for in a position that Barça will strengthen this summer.’
The Spanish champions are keeping a close eye on the Premier League relegation battle, aware that, in the case of Tottenham going down, Romero will be available for a reduced fee.
