Barcelona come to final decision on transfer-linked defender’s future

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have come to a definitive decision on the future of a transfer-linked member of the club’s backline.

The player in question? Iñigo Martínez.

Stopper Iñigo, for his part, has long seen his future in Catalunya’s capital thrown up in the air.

As much comes with the Spaniard’s biggest supporter, in Xavi, having of course been sent on his way by the Barcelona brass.

The 33-year-old’s place in the plans of the incoming Hansi Flick, amid something of a logjam at the heart of defence in the Blaugrana’s squad, has in turn been labelled as altogether more unclear.

Not only that, but with just 12 months remaining on his contract, Barca are aware that this summer marks their final opportunity to secure any form of decent return for Iñigo.

If the latest word stemming from the media on Thursday is anything to go by, however, then the Blaugrana have ultimately opted against seeking out as much.

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘The Blaugrana club has already decided on his continuity and he will have a squad number, while the player has not received any offer so far and he did not think of listening to them either since his objective is to continue at Barça.’
