Barcelona chief confirms contact with Man City boss Pep Guardiola

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has on Friday confirmed that he made recent contact with Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola.

This, presumably, came with a view to an unlikely return to the dugout at the Camp Nou.

It is of course common knowledge across the continent that Barcelona are currently on the lookout for a new manager.

This comes after Xavi Hernández last weekend announced his intention to step down from his post upon the conclusion of the campaign.

A whole host of high-profile names, in turn, have been tipped to replace the ex-Blaugrana midfielder in Catalunya, from Thomas Tuchel to Hansi Flick and even departing Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp.

And, as alluded to above, on Friday, club president Joan Laporta revealed that he recently touched base with another of world football’s finest, amid ongoing efforts to put plans in place for next season.

Speaking to the media as part of a lengthy press conference, Laporta announced that contacts have been made with Manchester City headmaster Pep Guardiola, regarding, presumably, a future return to the club.

As things stand, however, the Barcelona icon appears fully focused on matters at the Etihad Stadium:

“Pep Guardiola has a contract at Manchester City and he wants to respect it,” Laporta explained. “I spoke with him, and I know his plans well.”
