Barcelona boss Xavi to sanction Frenkie de Jong sale, under one condition

Barcelona head coach Xavi would be prepared to green light the sale of midfield star Frenkie de Jong this summer, under one key condition.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have today provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

It is of course common knowledge that a whole host of high-profile members of Xavi’s Barcelona squad are on the chopping block with a view to the summer.

Amid ongoing efforts to get the club’s financial situation back in order, the Blaugrana have been tipped to part with as many as eight players.

One, however, over whom the club’s headmaster has remained unwavering in his stance that he must remain, comes in the form of the aforementioned Frenkie de Jong.

Dutchman De Jong, despite another injury-plagued campaign, remains one of Xavi’s most trusted players, with the Spanish tactician highly appreciative of the differential elements which the former Ajax man adds to his midfield.

And yet, in one particular scenario, it would appear that Xavi could be talked into parting with the 26-year-old.

As per the aforementioned Sport, the scenario in question would see the funds secured through De Jong’s sale utilised directly on the signing of a leading Barca target – Bernardo Silva.

Though the coaching staff in Catalunya have no desire to bid De Jong farewell, if his exit meant that Bernardo could at last be brought in from Manchester City, they would give their blessing, with no questions asked.
