Barcelona boss Xavi provides Vitor Roque future update

Barcelona head coach Xavi this afternoon provided an update on the future of young frontman Vitor Roque.

As much comes amid widespread speculation surrounding the Blaugrana’s plans for Roque beyond the summer.

Amid ongoing struggles for game-time since his January arrival in Catalunya’s capital, it has been suggested by a number of sources in the Spanish media that the 19-year-old could be shipped out on loan for next season.

This, of course, would come with a view to securing for himself a more regular starting berth, with a view to returning in the summer of 2025 more ready to battle for his place in Barcelona’s frontline.

Roque himself is understood to be eager to stay put, of the opinion that a full pre-season with Xavi’s squad will afford him the necessary conditions to rediscover his best form.

Amid such chatter, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of the club’s plans for Roque was put to none other than Barca’s headmaster on Sunday.

Xavi’s ensuing response, though, is unlikely to have filled the Brazilian with the kind of security which he is no doubt craving:

“Vitor Roque leaving on loan? We must agree on what is best for each player with Deco and the president. We have not decided anything.”
