Barcelona boss Xavi in the sights of Ajax

Barcelona head coach Xavi has made his way onto the radar of one of the giants of Dutch football.

The outfit in question? Ajax.

The subject of Xavi’s future beyond the summer has of course long represented a headline talking point in the Spanish media.

As much comes after the former midfielder, following the turn of the year, announced his decision to step down from his post as Barcelona boss upon the season’s close.

The powers that be in Catalunya’s capital have since been hard at work in an effort to convince Xavi to change his mind, but, as of yet, have proven unsuccessful.

And, if the latest word doing the rounds on Tuesday is anything to go by, Barca’s loss could prove to be the gain of another of European football’s most historic clubs.

As per a report from Toni Juanmartí of Diario Sport, Xavi is ‘on the list’ of sleeping Eredivisie heavyweights Ajax.

Whilst the Spaniard’s is just one of a whole host of names under consideration, he is understood to be held in high regard behind the scenes at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

It remains to be seen, however, whether or not Xavi would even be interested in the role, with the 44-year-old having repeatedly reiterated his intent to take a year away from management in 2024/25.
