Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has not been included on the five-man shortlist to be named Coach of the Year at the upcoming Ballon d’Or ceremony.
This comes despite the German’s latest successful domestic campaign on the Blaugrana bench.
Barcelona are of course fresh off retaining not only their La Liga crown in 2025/26, but also their status as Spanish Super Cup champions, at the expense of a star-studded Real Madrid.
With these triumphs having come thanks to some of the most attractive, free-flowing football in all of Europe, the expectation on the part of many was in turn that Flick would be nominated for the Coach of the Year accolade by France Football.
As alluded to above, though, this has not proven to be the case. With Barca’s shortcomings in the Champions League having evidently cost their manager dear, the Spain-dominated five-man shortlist of candidates announced on Tuesday instead consists of:
- Luis Enrique
- Luis de la Fuente
- Mikel Arteta
- Unai Emery
- Vincent Kompany
Conor Laird – GSFN
