A major update on the future of Barcelona star João Cancelo has this evening been forthcoming online.
The info comes courtesy of German football insider Florian Plettenberg, and makes for altogether positive reading for those hopeful of seeing Cancelo stay put for next season.
This comes amid confirmation that new Barcelona headmaster Hansi Flick ‘would like’ the Portuguese international to be part of his squad.
Cancelo of course spent this past season on loan in Catalunya’s capital, with his future having been thrown up in the air following Xavi’s dismissal late last month.
With Flick having made clear to the Camp Nou brass that he envisions a place for the full-back in his XI, though, the Blaugrana have begun work ‘to find a solution’.
The first-choice option would be to extend Cancelo’s loan for a further 12 months, albeit with it remaining to be seen how open parent club Manchester City would be to such a prospect.
Fresh talks between the clubs have been pencilled in, with a further update on the situation expected over the next couple of weeks.
