Barcelona board reach final decision on Sergi Roberto’s expiring contract

An update on the future of Barcelona star Sergi Roberto has come to the fore late this evening.

The info comes by way of Relevo, who point towards Roberto’s long-term Blaugrana stint inching towards an imminent close.

It is of course common knowledge that the Spanish international’s future was recently thrown up in the air, by way of confirmation of Xavi’s incoming departure.

The tactician is understood to have been behind the eventual call to renew Roberto’s expiring contract for an extra year last summer.

This time round, though, the 31-year-old will have no such luck.

As per the aforementioned Relevo, Xavi’s exit will mark the end of Roberto’s 18-year stint on Barcelona’s books, too.

The powers that be in Catalunya’s capital, it is assured, ‘have no intention of offering him a renewal’.

With the versatile midfielder’s current deal due to expire in the summer, he will therefore become a free agent upon the season coming to a close.

Barca sporting director Deco intends to inform Roberto’s entourage of as much at some point over the coming days.
