Barcelona & Atlético Madrid open negotiations over defender deal

Two of La Liga’s leading clubs have kicked into gear negotiations over a potential summer transfer.

That’s according to transfer insider Santi Aouna, who points towards Barcelona and Atlético Madrid as the sides in question.

It is the latter who would be the buyers in the scenario, having set their sights on an out-of-favour member of the defensive ranks at the Camp Nou.

Clément Lenglet has for his part been a prominent figure in Barcelona’s pre-season schedule to date, largely impressing new head coach Hansi Flick on the back of his loan stint in England with Aston Villa.

Owing in large part to his exorbitant wages, however, the widespread understanding is that Barcelona still intend to move the Frenchman on this summer.

And a new suitor, it would appear, have this week positioned themselves in the race for Lenglet’s services.

As per the aforementioned Santi Aouna:

‘Faced with the difficulty of the Hancko and Aguerd files, Atlético Madrid have begun discussions with the representatives of Clément Lenglet.’

Talks have been initiated with Barcelona, too, with it noted that the 29-year-old is keen on the prospect of a move to the Wanda Metropolitano.
