Barcelona are the worst defensive team in Europe’s Top-5 leagues in 2024

A staggering statistic surrounding the defensive woes being endured by Spanish giants Barcelona at present has come to the fore late tonight.

The stat in question comes fresh off another outing to forget for Xavi and his troops.

The Blaugrana were of course back in action a short time ago, welcoming struggling Granada to Catalunya for a La Liga clash.

The matchup, on paper, looked a relatively straightforward assignment for Barca, fresh off a morale-boosting pair of successive victories over the last fortnight.

When all was said and done on Sunday, however, the Catalans saw their efforts come up short.

This came by way of a pulsating affair, which saw the two sides share six goals on their way to an eventual sharing of the spoils.

Barcelona’s issues, as evidenced by the scoreline, once more came on the defensive end this evening.

Marc-André ter Stegen’s long-awaited return made little difference, as a goal-shy Granada outfit managed to put three past their heavyweights hosts on their own turf.

And, as alluded to above, as much has since given rise to the most head-turning of statistics.

As revealed by Opta:

‘Barcelona have conceded 23 goals in 11 games in 2024 across all competitions, more than any other team from the top five European leagues since the start of the year.’
