Barcelona consider signing César Azpilicueta if they miss out on Jules Koundé

As communicated by AS, Barcelona are weighing up the possibility of signing César Azpilicueta if they fail to reach an agreement with Sevilla over the transfer of Jules Koundé.

It is reported that the Andalucían side will accept Chelsea’s bid of €65 million for the Frenchman, meaning that Barcelona would still be in the market to sign a defender during this transfer window.

With the Blaugrana appearing to be coming up short in the race to sign Koundé, it is believed that they are also considering to make a move for Villarreal’s Pau Torres.

If Koundé does end up going to Chelsea, Azpilicueta will be more than likely finding himself without regular playing time in London.

When taking into account Barcelona’s financial situation, the signing of the 32-year-old Spanish defender from Stamford Bridge seems to be a more feasible option than negotiating a deal with Villarreal over Pau Torres.

Having won two Premier League titles and the Champions League last year, the Chelsea captain will bring valuable experience to this Barça side.

His ability to play comfortably in both a back-three or back-four formation would allow Xavi to experiment with different tactics this coming season.
