UEFA have on Thursday confirmed the official winner of the Champions League Player of the Week award.
And, as expected, it has been scooped by a La Liga star, in the form of Atlético Madrid summer signing Julián Alvarez.
Frontman Alvarez proved himself match-winner on Tuesday night, as Atlético recovered from both a goal and a man down to put German champions Bayer Leverkusen to the sword in Spain’s capital.
The Argentine international was responsible for both of his side’s goals, including a superb 90th-minute winner.
Elsewhere on the Champions League POTW shortlist, another pair of La Liga stars take 3rd and 4th places, too.
After notching a brace en route to Real Madrid’s 5-1 drubbing of RB Salzburg, Vinícius Jr. slots in behind 2nd-placed Luuk de Jong.
And rounding out the top-4 is Barcelona wide-man Raphinha, who was also on target to the tune of a double, as the Blaugrana recovered from two goals down to get the better of Benfica.
