Manchester City star Rodri has revealed his opinion that compatriot and Barcelona attacker Lamine Yamal will soon follow in his footsteps, by lifting the Ballon d’Or trophy.
Midfielder Rodri, for his part, is of course fresh off an evening to remember on Monday.
After months of widespread speculation that the 28-year-old was set to miss out on the Ballon d’Or by way of a 2nd-placed finish behind Real Madrid winger Vinícius Jr, Rodri, in the end, was crowned surprise winner.
The Spaniard was recognised for his efforts on the club and international fronts alike, with Rodri fresh off clinching another Premier League title with Man City, and glory at the European Championships with Spain.
During his acceptance speech on Monday, the former Villarreal man was, in turn, keen to highlight the talents of one of his teammates in Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad.
Specifically, Rodri named Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal as a player whom he feels will follow him in clinching the ‘Golden Ball’ in the very near future.
“Lamine Yamal will win this trophy very soon,” he assured.
