Real Madrid star Aurélien Tchouaméni has on Thursday provided an insight into the context of the recent clip of he and teammate Jude Bellingham, to have gone viral across social media.
For those who may have missed it, the footage in question saw the Real midfield pair in the thick of a debate, in the club’s dressing room.
The argument, which seemed lighthearted at its core, centered on two other players, with Tchouaméni presenting the case of one as superior, and Bellingham the other.
Upon making its way online, the video was immediately presumed to be based around the long-standing debate over the talents of Kylian Mbappé, and Erling Haaland.
As much comes with Tchouaméni an international teammate of soon-to-be Real Madrid man Mbappé, and Bellingham having shared the pitch with Haaland at Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking in a press conference whilst on international duty with France on Thursday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of the viral clip was put to Les Bleus standout Tchouaméni.
What did mark a surprise, however, was the 24-year-old’s ensuing response.
Providing an insight into the true subject of his back-and-forth with Bellingham, Tchouaméni, as per RMC Sport, revealed that the two players under discussion were in fact Bayern Munich duo Eric Dier, and Dayot Upamecano.
“We weren’t talking about Kylian and we weren’t talking about Erling,” he began. “We were talking about Dayot (Upamecano) and Dier. Why? Because it was the day before our Champions League match and we were watching Bayern-Lazio, if I’m not mistaken. I think it was Bayern-Lazio in the Champions League, yes that’s it.”
Tchouaméni continued:
“And so in fact Jude (Bellingham) was talking about Dier and I was talking about Dayot. So today we are going to re-establish the truth. I know it will sell less but that is what happened.”
