Atlético Madrid to prioritise sales in the January transfer window

Atlético Madrid will prioritise the offloading of under-performing players in the upcoming transfer window in January, report Marca.

Last week it was communicated that Los Colchoneros are interested in making a move for Marcus Thuram, whose contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach is expiring at the end of the season.

However, Atlético Madrid’s failure to progress to the knock-out rounds of the Champions League and the Europa League means that the club will be missing out on a potential revenue of up to €60m.

Thus, the club are considering to part way with players who are not meeting the standards demanded by Diego Simeone. In addition to João Félix, who has been been linked with several European sides, the club are also considering the futures of Rodrigo De Paul, Mario Hermoso, Thomas Lemar, Matheus Cunha and Yannick Carrasco.

While the players mentioned could end up leaving in January, it is very unlikely that all of them will wave goodbye to the Estadio Metropolitano in the winter transfer market as the Atlético Madrid squad is already only made up of 22 players.
