Atlético Madrid striker Diego Costa requests contract termination

Diego Costa has asked Atlético Madrid to terminate his contract in January for family reasons, according to AS.

Costa’s contract is up in June 2021 and he looks set to leave the Spanish capital earlier than expected. The former Chelsea striker has been one of the leading forwards in the club’s history. In the 2013-2014 campaign, he scored 36 goals as Atlético claimed their first Primera title in 18 years. Since returning to the club after a spell in the Premier League, Costa has failed to hit the heights previously experienced under Diego Simeone, picking up several injuries along the way.

The 32-year-old didn’t train with Simeone’s side on Monday ahead of their league clash with Getafe on Wednesday night in a bid to resolve his contractual situation. AS report that Costa believes he still has two or three years left at the highest level of European football.
