Atlético Madrid star set to miss Dortmund return leg

A headline member of Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid squad will play no part in the club’s showdown with Borussia Dortmund next week.

This comes owing to an accumulation of yellow cards.

Simeone and co, of course, marked their return to action on the continent late last night.

Eyeing a spot in the competition’s final-4, Atléti played host to the aforementioned Dortmund, in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie between the clubs.

When all was said and done, it was the former who emerged on the right side of a 2-1 result, owing to goals on the part of Rodrigo De Paul and Samuel Lino.

And yet, en route to as much, the Rojiblancos also saw their hopes for next week’s return leg dented.

This came upon goalscorer Lino picking up his latest yellow card.

Aware heading into proceedings that he was a solitary booking away from a one-game Champions League suspension, the Brazilian was shown precisely that inside the opening half hour at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Boss Diego Simeone, as a result, will not have Lino at his disposal at Signal Iduna Park next Tuesday night.
