A member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid is all set to bring a close to his short-lived stint with the club. This comes amid confirmation that Thiago Almada is being lined up for an imminent move back to his native Argentina.
Versatile attacker Almada for his part only made the move to Spain’s capital last summer, from Botafogo.
The 25-year-old went on to endure something of an underwhelming campaign all told in 2025/26, notching just three league goals whilst struggling to lock down a permanent starting berth in Diego Simeone’s XI.
With Almada still held in high regard across the world of football, these woes gave rise to widespread speculation, pointing towards an immediate exit for the Argentine international this summer.
And as alluded to above, on Thursday, one of Almada’s many suitors appear to have all but landed their man. As per a report from transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, citing Marca:
‘River Plate reach verbal agreement with Atletico Madrid for Thiago Almada, here we go! Green light on personal terms, waiting to review contracts and proceed with formal steps.
‘Transfer fee around €20m.’
