The Madrid derby saw late set-piece goals from Atlético Madrid defender José María Giménez and Real Madrid forward Álvaro Rodríguez cement a 1-1 draw.
One of the main talking points of the match was the straight red card received by Atlético Ángel Correa after a tussle with Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger.
The immediate sending-off was seen as harsh by some and after the game, Atlético’s social media admin took it to publicly and expressed their disapproval of the refereeing, posting a picture of Correa’s leg, captioned “Nothing new at the Bernabéu”.
Atlético have become more outspoken, giving their opinion on refereeing in recent weeks. After the Copa del Rey defeat, also against Real Madrid, a club statement was released where president Miguel Ángel Gil Marín said their opponents were favoured due to the pressure exerted by the club.
Diego Simeone and players such as Mario Hermoso came out after the cup match to speak their minds in subsequent interviews.
